I am an independent reporter and editor based in the Pacific Northwest.

My work brings together thinking from different fields of expertise and experience. My words hold tensions and at times contradictions. I attempt to convey the complexity of the world and highlight those looking for answers to perplexing questions. Iā€™m passionate about including underrepresented voices. I see the importance of the hyperlocal while seeking to understand our connection to the global.

For five years, I served as science editor at Christianity Today. I led strategy on coverage for the science section, evaluating and approving pitches, and guiding writers from a first draft to a published final. I also led and organized writers workshops to develop capacity for writers to integrate theology and science in their work.

I also worked for eight years as a community journalist covering suburban governments and school districts in the Portland, Oregon, area. I won several awards from the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for investigative reporting on four-decades old sexual abuse by a swim coach, for enterprise reporting on an accidental death of a boy on the school playground, and for comprehensive coverage on how urban water rights threatened endangered salmon.

I have an M.A. in international studies from the University of Washington. I am a member of the Northwest Science Writers Association, the Society of Environmental Journalists, and the Religion News Association.
